Asda wooden toy range

As I may have mentioned a few times before (ahem) I do love a wooden toy. We already have a wooden kitchen which the children love, and so when we were offered the chance to try some of the wooden toy range from Asda, we jumped at the chance.

After some deliberation we chose the 2 in 1 wooden play shop & cafe, priced at £35, and the wooden toy cash register priced at £10. We thought these toys would open up more opportunities for imaginative play, as well as being a good way to help teach numbers, counting, money handling and writing.

The wooden shop and cafe is lovely. It comes flat packed, but is fairly simple to build – we had it set up within half an hour. I like that it is on castors so that it is easy to swap between shop mode and cafe mode.

The shop section has really deep shelves where you can store all your goodies for sale, and the cafe side has a blackboard front where you can write down everything that you are serving that day. There is also a small removable blackboard on the side of the toy, which is perfect for a shopping list, or for taking orders. The set doesn’t come with chalk, so you might want to stock up on some before you start play.

The wooden cash register is a great addition to the shop/cafe, and makes it a lot easier to play. It comes with paper notes, a credit card and some coins, as well as a removable scanner and blackboard section to write the price on.There is a card swipe section on the side, and some abacus beads for counting change.

The children have loved playing with these toys, and they have definitely been used daily since they arrived. They are very well made, the perfect size for all 3 children, who range in age from 1-8, and the option to swap between play modes makes it a much more versatile toy.

I love how you can change the way you play every day. We have had a fruit and veg shop, a DVD shop and a toy shop as well as a tea and cake cafe and a restaurant serving such delicacies as spaghetti bolognese and beans on toast. The children have used it alongside our play kitchen, taking orders at the cafe, heading off to the kitchen to cook the food, and then coming back to the cafe to serve customers. I can see that the wooden shop/cafe and wooden cash register will be used in this house for years to come, and they are fantastic value for such well made toys – perfect for anyone on the hunt for wooden toys as Christmas gifts this year!

This is so nice! I am definitely going to have a look at this. The kids love our play kitchen, and we also have a dollhouse from the wooden toy collection in ASDA that is really cute (though it really needs more inventory! haha)
I really like toys that both inspire imaginative play, but also learning skills like writing and maths. 😀

That looks great – we’ve actually been looking for something similar and I didn’t realise ASDA sold this one, fantastic price too in comparison to others I’ve seen. Is it quite big to store? It’s hard to get perspective from your lovely photos…

Oh that looks fantastic, what great toys. I wish it had been around a few years ago, my kids would have loved it! I really like the look of the cash register, the ones we have, the kids keep getting things stuck in them, your one looks like it wouldn’t.

This is great! I’ve seen similar things elsewhere but they are a lot more expensive which has always put me off because I’m not sure exactly how much my little boy would play with it. For now, it’s all about cars, but for that money I’d be happy to take the chance. It would be perfect for Christmas! xx

I’ve heard loads of great things on forums about this range, but never seen any pictures so reading your review – it looks absolutely fabulous! My toddler/nearly pre-schooler would absolutely adore all of it! #TriedTested
