Review: Slumbersac muslin sleeping bag

I have used sleeping bags with all of my children, right from the very early days. I have always found them so much more convenient that blankets for a number of reasons – they can’t kick them off, they can’t pull them up over their faces and they just seem much more snug and cosy.

Sometimes in the summer months though, it’s hard to know how to use a sleeping bag. When it’s very hot do you just go for a sleeping bag and nappy? Do you buy a lighter tog bag? What happens if the temperature drops in the night – will they then be too cold?

Slumbersac have come up with a great solution to this problem. Their new muslin sleeping bag offers a natural, soft alternative to the traditional padded sleeping bags. Muslin is a naturally breathable material, so your little one won’t overheat, and we have found this fabric works wonders for Max’s eczema too – when he gets hot and sticky, he scratches. The moisture that might get trapped by other materials is allowed to flow out of the sleeping bag as the air circulates, which helps to keep him cool and comfortable.

We have been trying out the 0.5 tog bag in the 12-36 month size, which is a perfect fit for 2 year old Max with plenty of growing space. There is also the option to buy a 2 tog sleeping bag, made up of 7 layers of muslin – offering the same benefits but a bit more suitable for cooler autumn nights.

Not only is it comfortable, well fitting and funky looking, it is also practical. There is a zip that runs down the front of the sleeping bag, making nappy changes easy. They also come pre washed, so you can just unpack and use straight away, even on babies with sensitive skin.

Max seems to approve of this Slumbersac – he puts it on without complaint, and hasn’t woken during the night while he has been wearing it. I have popped in a few times to check his temperature over the last few nights, as it has been so warm, but he has always been comfortable and sleeps soundly until morning.

There are ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ designs available, as well as the unisex print we have been testing, and I will definitely be investing in a couple more – maybe one more for Max and a dinky one for Eliza….

I’ve used Slumbersac branded baby sleeping bags before but ours weren’t muslin ones – I bet there are lovely and cool in the summer. #TriedTested

These look really good. I love sleeping bags too – I think they are brilliant; so easy to use and practical. I do remember wondering what to do during the summer months and worrying about her getting too hot, so these are a great idea xx #TriedTested
