Review: Vax Air Cordless Switch

Vax Air Switch

With 4 kids, we vacuum a lot. Pretty much every day we whizz around to pick up the mud, the grass, the fluff and the general dirt that comes from having a busy household. But I have to say, one thing that drives me up the wall is the cord on a vacuum cleaner. It is never long enough, especially if you are doing the stairs, and it always gets tangled up or someone trips over it. I also find vacuum cleaners so heavy, and carrying them around the house is such hard work.

Cordless vacuum cleaners have been on my radar for a while, but I didn’t really know where to start. Recently we were sent the Vax Air Cordless Switch to try out, and I was keen to see if it could solve my cleaning woes.

Vax Air Switch

The Vax Air Cordless Switch is 2 cleaners in one. You have a standard style upright vacuum – just without the cord – and a handheld part which can be taken off the main unit to do the stairs, the furniture and any awkward to reach areas. The extended runtime LithiumLife™ battery means you should be able to clean a good portion of the house from one charge – we certainly manage the whole downstairs in one go, and then recharge before doing upstairs. The battery lasts approx 15 minutes.

It also weighs just 3.5kg, so it really is lightweight, and easy to carry up and down the stairs with one hand. The weight also makes it super simple to manoeuvre too – it glides across both carpets and hard floors with ease, and has steerable technology which makes it easy to reach corners and move around furniture. As you are vacuuming, you can simply roll the switch on the handle to change the setting from carpet to hard floor – you don’t need to turn it off to change as you move from room to room.

So how does it perform? Well we were pleasantly surprised. I worried that a cordless vacuum would lose some of the power of a traditional upright, but that’s not the case. The Vax Air Cordless Switch has Wind-Tunnel technology – 2 channels of suction to help achieve deep down cleaning, especially when used on carpets. This means that it really picks up well, even if you have a child who walks through the house in their muddy football boots, grinding dirt down into the floor (yes, I am looking at you Jacob). It even comes with LED headlights too, which are ideal for illuminating dark or restricted spaces.

If you are considering a cordless vacuum, I would certainly recommend the Vax Air Cordless Switch. It is powerful, lightweight, easy to use and comes with a handheld cleaner attached so you can clean above the floor with ease too. My only real negative point is the battery life – it would be lovely if it lasted for half an hour or so, but I know that most cordless vacuums have a similar battery life. Maybe in the future a more powerful battery will be available that lasts twice the time – you never know!

I hadn’t heard of cordless vacuum cleaners but it takes me more than 15 minutes, so probably not for me. My bugbear at the moment is the leaves. Everytime you open the front door, some blow in, so I’m having to hoover the hall several times a dayto avoid them getting trodden all round the house

My stairs are jealous!! I have, and love, a Dyson but it’s so heavy and cumbersome for cleaning the stairs, I love the idea of a smaller hand held cleaner.

I didn’t realise Vax did a cordless upright vacuum. It sounds and looks great, I have a cordless one and it is fantastic! I hate using corded ones now.

I really need one of these! We probably should do some sort of vacuuming each day and it is such a pain to get the big vac cleaner out. I was looking at the Dyson but this is more purse friendly. I think you just have to keep it on charge every day. A bit like my new electric toothbrush I’m finding!
