Our new bathroom wish list

As many of you will know, we have recently moved into a new build house. Although this has been a real upheaval and there have been some major issues (I will write about that soon), the flexibility to choose and design our own home from scratch has been fantastic.

We spent a long time choosing our kitchen cupboards, our flooring and carpets, the tiles and the paint. We had the option to upgrade on certain things too – I actually wish we had chosen one of these Grohe kitchen taps, and this is something we might actually look at adding in time.

Now we have moved in and it is all about making this empty shell of a house into a family home. It has been a slow process, especially because we have been held up by remedial works and things that needed to be put right, but we are finally able to start in earnest. Two of the rooms I really want to tackle are the family bathroom and the en suite. We chose a really neutral look in these rooms, with light grey tiles and a dark vinyl flooring with white walls. We currently have the standard shower that came with the property, but I have been eyeing up these Grohe showers too – you can’t beat a really good shower to wake you up in the morning, and I love the look of the huge rainshower heads, which would be perfect in our modern house.

To brighten up the bathrooms, I want some bright accessories to liven up the neutral colour scheme. I already have some lovely, soft yellow towels in the en suite, and am currently searching for a similar bath mat. In the main bathroom I think a teal colour would look good, so am on the search for towels and bath mats will tone in. I have also been looking for some pretty and functional soap dispensers and toothbrush mugs, just to finish it all off and tie things together. The main bathroom is currently over run with kids bath toys, so storage is a priority – I have seen some pretty white and blue storage drawers that I think will work really well in there.

A bathroom can be a difficult room to design and plan – there isn’t much furniture and it tends to be a small room, so you don’t want to put too much in. Having said that, there are lots of small things that need to be stored in a bathroom, so proper storage is essential. Adding in a few small, pretty items can transform a plain, boring room into a real sanctuary, and somewhere you want to go to relax.

I always think of the bathroom as the relaxation room, the place where you sink into a bath and chill out, therefore it needs to be clean, tidy and most of all beautifully decorated. Some good ideas here.
