Bumbleride Indie review

I have a bit of a addiction. Those of you who know me well will know of my love for all things pushchair, and so when I was offered the chance to review the Bumbleride Indie stroller I jumped at the chance.
The Indie is a lightweight all terrain pushchair that is designed to be ideal for both off road action and shopping in town – so we vowed to put it to the test!
It comes in a really small box – in fact I couldn’t believe there was a pushchair inside, especially a large, all terrain one. It is remarkably easy to assemble – just slide on the rear axle and wheels, screw on the front wheel and clip on the hood – I had it ready to go within minutes. I couldn’t wait to try it out, so the same day it arrived, I popped Max in and headed off to do the school run.

As you can see, Max has oodles of space in the seat. It is deep too, so there is heaps of room for his legs, and the footrest can be adjusted so that his feet are either in line with his bottom, or pushed down so they fold over the edge towards the footrest.
The harness is easy to adjust, and there are some lovely soft shoulder pads to prevent any rubbing from the harness. I also really like the padded headrest which supports his head and gives him a comfortable position.
It is ideal for the school run and for nipping in and out of the shops. I was worried it was going to be too big and bulky, and be difficult to manoeuvre, but I was wrong. It is SO lightweight and easy to push, it feels no heavier than a stroller. The 360 degree swivel wheel at the front makes it really easy to pivot round, even with one hand while carrying an armload of Easter eggs with the other (not for me I hasten to add. OK, not all for me).
The real test for me was to try this pushchair off road. I knew I loved it for everyday use, but I wanted to see how it would stand up to some rougher terrain. We are a real outdoorsy family, and love to walk in the woods and go to the local adventure playground – so these were the 2 places we chose to take the Bumbleride and put it through its paces.

The Bumbleride fits comfortably in our estate car, with room for bags and picnic stuff. If we needed more space, I would just remove the rear wheels to make it a bit more compact.

The first test was mud and grass. NO problems at all – the push and the ride were as smooth as when using on tarmac, and Max didn’t get bumped around in the seat – mainly due to these tough 12″ air tyres and some rather great suspension I think!

Then for the real test – an off road walk through the local woods, with mud, leaves, hills, stones and lots and lots of bumps to tackle.
I love how much you can fit in the basket – it is enormous, and makes heading out for the day a breeze as you can easily pack a picnic, a blanket, a changing bag and coats in there. We unpacked everything from the car and set off on the start of the nature walk. My husband and I both enjoy pushing the Bumbleride as the adjustable handle means we both find it comfortable.

Even on the bumpiest ground the Bumbleride remained easy to push, and the lightweight frame made going up hills easy too. When we stopped to build a den, the strong brake made sure that the pushchair didn’t move an inch.

Max really loves the Bumbleride. Previously to this, he has always been in a parent facing pushchair, so I was worried he wouldn’t like facing away from me – I was very wrong, he loves looking out at the world and watching everything that is happening. (When did my baby get so big?!)
So, the Bumbleride passes the urban test AND the rural test, and on a practical level it gets the thumbs up too. Lightweight, easy to fold, adjustable handle and leg rest, huge basket and a large hood too.

On top of all of that, I love the little accessories you get as standard. The raincover is non PVC and doesn’t have that stiff, plasticky feel you often get. It’s soft, flexible and easy to fold and has a window in the front to make it easy to access your baby. You also get a cupholder which just clips on to the side of the frame – an accessory I really like, as there have been many times I have been out and bought a cup of coffee and then had to try and juggle pushing the pram and carrying a hot drink. Not ideal. The cupholder makes it much easier, and is the perfect size for a Costa cup – just in case you need to know 😉
There is also a bumper bar included, which is easy to fit and remove, and can be adjusted to a couple of different heights.
In conclusion? I love the Indie. I love the lightweight frame combined with the hardwearing wheels and great suspension – this combination gives you a set of wheels that is really multi purpose. For a large pushchair, the fold is compact and the light frame makes it easy to throw in the back of the car. The range of adjustability in the handle, the leg rest and the recline make it comfortable for pushers and passengers alike, and the huge hood and basket tick all the practical boxes. It’s definitely a real winner for me.

Looks like a great pushchair. We used our travel system for out on rough ground and the farm, just a shame they’re really too bulky when you want something quick and light for town
