Outdoor fun in the woods #CountryKids

We have a National Trust estate just on our doorstep, and it is one of those places we often find ourselves on a Sunday afternoon, come rain or shine. During the Easter holiday, we have been there a few times – to walk, to run, to collect interesting things and to just get some fresh air.

Gemma and Jacob always love to build things – on our latest trip they spent a long time collecting sticks to make a birds nest in the branch of a tree, and with Daddy’s help moved some larger sticks to make a den.
Once that was done, there was a bit of jumping off things to be done!
There are always new things to explore on each visit. This time, we found 2 trees with a stump in the middle which was perfect for climbing on, Jacob spotted some sheep in the field at the bottom of the hill and Gemma found a nice patch of gloopy mud. Max really loves to watch everything that is going on, and it won’t be long before he can pop on a pair of wellies and join in!
We always end up bringing something home from our trips – Gemma and Jacob found some prickly shells, which were sneaked into the boot of the car and have now been ‘planted’ in the garden at home.
Jacob has a birthday coming up on Friday, so he found this stump, told me it was a ‘wishing tree’ and made his birthday wish. Now if only I knew what he had wished for..!
Have you been getting out and about in the Easter holidays? Have you got a National Trust estate near you? They really are fabulous places to spend an afternoon.
