History
Aldgate derived its name from Aldgate high street which was home to the former gate in the London Wall. In the 18th century, Aldgate was at the epicentre of the sugar refining industry. The historic street pattern in central Aldgate was redeveloped in the 1970’s to form Aldgate Square. The border of the former London Wall runs along the western side of the Square.
Aldgate is now at the epicentre of the finance and business industry and hosts a range of lavish business and leisure complexes. With so much to do in and around the area, Aldgate is a great location for a hotel.
