Baby watch – weeks 4-8

I know I have said this a lot lately, but time really does fly, and Max is growing up far too fast. I can hardly believe he has been here with us for 2 months already, but equally we can no longer imagine life without Max in it.
I won’t pretend it has been an easy ride. It hasn’t. After his tough start in life, I was hoping things would be smooth going after that, but it hasn’t quite been like that. Since he came home, Max has been a very ‘sicky’ baby and he was diagnosed with reflux shortly after birth. He was put on various medications, and it was suggested that he may also be intolerant to cows milk protein. Doesn’t sound that big a deal for a baby who is breastfed right? Wrong! What it actually means is that mummy needs to eliminate dairy products from her diet – a lot easier said than done as there is dairy in many, many food products.
It has been trial and error, and I have found it tough going at times. I am starting to feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to some very supportive friends and a strong social network support which has provided me with meal ideas, recipes and even insider tips on where to buy dairy free icecream and chocolate 🙂

Despite everything, Max is just amazing. He grows and changes every day, and this month bought us the first precious smiles.

He is such a happy and contended baby most of the time, and he sleeps! 11pm – 6 or 6.30am. What a superstar!
I want to stop time. I don’t want my baby to grow up. I love the stage he is at now, where he is learning and discovering something new about the world every day, and teaching us new things every day in the process. At his last weigh in he was 9lbs 6ozs, and is starting to reach the end of his newborn sleepsuits. He loves Gemma and Jacob and smiles at them when they come home from school, and they in turn adore him, and will sit and talk to him about their day.
There is so much fun and joy to come with this little boy, and I know he is going to continue to amaze and enthrall us, every day of his life.
