It’s that time of year again already – Back to School. So, with that in mind, today we have a guest post from the lovely Colette, who blogs over at We’re going on an adventure. A primary school teacher herself, as well as mummy to a new school starter, Colette tells us how she feels about the back to school chaos…
How is it September already? I don’t know about you but half of me feels the summer holidays have slipped through my hands and the other half is glad they are done and we can get back to some semblance of normality. As a teacher I often used to think “Why are these mums so keen to get their kids back to school? Surely they must love having the time at home with them?” Now that I’m a mum of two (nearly three!) I can see where they are coming from! Don’t get me wrong I love the time at home with my little people but equally its hard work keeping them entertained, Ben is more than ready to start school full time and I am more than ready to let him go! He needs the routine, the stimulation, the chance to spend time with his friends and in all honesty some time away from Mummy! I’m sure if I was still teaching full time my attitude might be slightly different being as how it would be the end of my own holidays as well as his but as I now work on a supply basis the start of a new school year is considerably less stressful!
I always feel like the start of the new school year in September is exciting; the new school uniforms, choosing pencil cases full of shiny new pens and pencils, new books with fresh clean pages to do your best handwriting on. It’s even better than January in my mind in terms of a “new start. It’s an especially big deal in our house this year as Ben will be starting school – although as he has been attending Nursery at the same school for the past year so it won’t feel quite so much of a shock to the system for us all . He is excited about his new teacher, about staying at school all day and having his dinner there (so much so that he was telling an old lady at a bus stop in the holidays all about it). We have talked about school on and off during the holidays and I honestly don’t think he’s remotely phased by it – of course we shall see exactly how he reacts on the first day of term! (If you want to know how he gets on check out my blog We’re going on an adventure…. )
How are things in your house? Are you all looking forward to the start of the new school year or dreading it?
Thanks Colette – I am looking forward to hearing how Ben gets on at school!
