Making a bird feeder #CountryKids

The birds are just starting to appear in out garden again after the cold snap, so today we made a bird feeder. The children love sitting in the utility room and watching the birds in the garden.

This bird feeder is SO simple – it is made using lolly sticks, glue and string. That’s it.

  1. Lay 9 lolly sticks out next to each other:
2. Place 2 lolly sticks across the top and bottom of your feeder base, and glue into place to make a rigid base. Then continue to use lolly sticks (stacked 2 at a time) on alternate sides of your base. Before you place the last lolly sticks, tie a piece of string around both so you can hang it up.
3. Once dry, fill with seed for the birds:
4. Hang up – and wait for the birds to appear!
Do your children like feeding the birds?

What a simple design and great for the children to make and then admire when the birds come to feed. Thanks for linking up and sharing your idea with Country Kids.

That is so clever – I bet the boys would love to make one as they would have to eat all those lollies to get the sticks lol! We have made one with a yoghurt pot but I like the sticks as it looks more natural. #MagicMoments

My toddler loves watching birds! Now, we only leave them some crumbs on the window sill, but I would love to try this out.

Our problem is finding somewhere to hang a bird feeder that is both dog proof (she wrecked our bird table trying to climb on it!) and cat proof – they love climbing trees. At least we are right out in the country with plenty of wild food for the birds … and they like to nick the chicken’s grain when they can!
