The moments that mattered in 2013

2013 was a big year, a lot happened. A lot. Here is our photo story of the moments that have mattered to us in 2013.

A lovely family holiday – our last as a family of 4. At 8 months pregnant, it was a gentle one. Walks along the beach and breakfast with a view. Sat on this balcony early in the morning before anyone else was awake, watching the sunrise and thinking about how our lives were going to change in the next few weeks. That’s a moment that mattered.

A new addition. Our long awaited baby arrived, in a hurry, leaving us all shocked and emotional. Premature and with breathing problems, holding Max for the first time – that was a moment that mattered.
After a tough start, bringing Max home was one of the best moments of my life. A real moment that mattered, without doubt. The start of our journey as a family of 5, a mummy of 3.

Once Max had settled in at home, and summer arrived, we went to watch Sports Day. Yes, it’s just a small thing to some, but it was Jacob’s first sports day, Gemma’s last sports day in the ‘infant’ section of the school. Another moment that mattered to us.

Another family holiday, this time with 5 of us! So many lovely times were had – Max’s first paddle in the sea, making a sand boat with Gemma and Jacob, watching the older children go up on stage and take part in games – confidently and independently – during the evening entertainment. A whole host of moments that mattered.
We rounded up the year with Christmas. Always a special time, purely because it means time spent with family. A time to slow down and enjoy each others company. Lights, good food, laughter, a frosty morning that takes your breath away, smiles on little faces. Moments that matter.
It’s been a big year. Huge. A lot has happened and there have been so many moments that have mattered – too many to list. The everyday things – fun family days out, a new job, building dens in the kitchen, birthdays, parties and the things we do day in day out. Reading my children a bedtime story is always a special time. Then there are the ‘firsts’ – the first smile, the first laugh. Watching Max learn to sit up, crawl and eat. There are too many to mention here. I think we all need to slow down, take a moment and cherish the small things. Time passes far too fast, and before we know it the little moments are gone. So stop, and remember this beautiful quote:
It’s all too true. Those moments matter. Treasure them.
