Sometimes the thought of getting your children eating a decent serving of vegetables can seem impossible. Dinner time is stressful enough without having to think of new tricks to sneak some veggies into their meals without them noticing. So sit back and let us do the hard work for you with some of my favourite veggie sneaking hacks!
Eat Your Veggies!
This one isn’t rocket science… If your children see you pushing your veggies to the side or complaining about a particular vegetable you don’t like then they are going to think it’s okay for them to do the same!
Make sure you’re enjoying your veggies! Switch up the way you cook your favourite vegetables a couple of nights a week or better yet, change the type of veggies you are having completely. It’s great to get some variety into your children’s diet, so continue to mix it up!
The Fruit Salad Trick
Kids love a delicious fruit salad snack, so why not get sneaky and chuck some vegetables in there too! Try adding some of the sweeter veggies like fresh corn or snow peas to start, and then chuck some beetroot, celery or tomatoes to brighten it up with some gorgeous colours!
Cut the veggies up in a similar, if not the same size you are cutting the fruits to not draw any unwanted attention to them. However, if they ask if there is a particular vegetable is in the salad be honest about it. You could even turn this into a game; how many vegetables can you find?
The “Try It” Rule
Get your family and come up with a new house rule that states, everyone (parents included) has to have a decent sized bite of everything on their plate before they state that they do not like it! This will get both kids and adults alike in the habit of tasting everything that is presented to them, and also make them open to trying more foods as they grow older.
If you need help coming up with more innovative ways of cooking and new things to include you should try the new, helpful tool that Hello Fresh has come up with – The Flavour Generator. This allows you to go in, choose a cuisine you feel like, an ingredient you like and just like that you have a couple of dinner options to get you going!!
Getting your children to eat veggies doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Slowly involve one of the above moves into your usual routine and you’ll all be eating a range of different vegetables before you know it!
