The summer holiday season is a great opportunity for family members to spend quality time together. Whether you’re taking a break from work or school, or simply want to enjoy some downtime with your loved ones, there are plenty of fun activities to choose from.

With warmer weather, longer days and plenty of free time, the summer is also a wonderful time to visit new places. There are lots of things to see and do – including some ideas that you may have never previously thought of!

If you are looking for some new places to take the kids this summer, then read on for our top suggestions, and enjoy a summer that is full of new memories and amazing experiences.

  1. Go camping

Camping is one of those things that people love doing but don’t necessarily think about as an option when they are planning their holidays. However, camping can be a fantastic way to get out in nature while spending quality time with your family

You will be able to explore beautiful scenery, make new friends, learn new skills, and even try something completely different to what you would normally do.

If you’ve got young children who love being outdoors, then camping will be a real treat, and this can be the perfect chance to enjoy some quality family time in the great outdoors.

  1. Visit an animal sanctuary

There are many animal sanctuaries around the country, and this can be an incredible opportunity for you and your children to go and meet animals up close.

Many of these facilities offer tours so that you can see what life is like inside, and this is an amazing chance to really get up close and personal with some of your favourite animals, as well as to help your children learn how to care for and interact with animals.

Some sanctuaries, such as Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Essex, are also set in acres of stunning countryside, and this would allow your family to enjoy the great outdoors while you interact with and learn about the amazing animals.

It is an experience that also offers a chance to teach your children about the importance of animal welfare and rescue, and to show them the steps that they can take to conserve and protect the lives of animals, and the wider planet.

  1. Explore a national park

National parks are excellent places to visit during the summer months, and if you haven’t visited any before, now is the perfect time to start exploring them. Not only are national parks often located near beaches and other popular tourist destinations, but they tend to be filled with natural beauty and wildlife, making them ideal locations for families to relax and unwind.

National parks can also be great locations for a picnic, and this also offers a chance to teach your children about the right way to behave in the countryside, including taking their litter home, closing gates, and protecting the natural world around them as best they can.

  1. Hike in the countryside

Hiking is another activity that people love doing, but don’t always consider when they plan their holidays. However, hiking is a brilliant way to get out into nature and enjoy some fresh air, sunshine, and exercise all at once. It is also a great way to bond with your family and create lasting memories.

You can find local trails and routes in most parts of the UK, and you can use apps like Trailforks to help guide you along the best paths. This is a great way to take advantage of the great British weather, and you could even extend your hike by visiting nearby towns or cities, and incorporating them into your journey.

  1. Visit a local zoo or aquarium

Zoos and aquariums can be wonderful places to spend time with your family, and there are many across the UK that allow visitors to come and feed, touch, and play with the animals, or which offer the chance to learn more about certain species and creatures.

Some zoos have special events and seasonal activities too, so you may want to check with them first as to whether they will have anything going on during your stay.

This is a great chance to teach your kids about conservation and sustainability, as well as the importance of playing our part to keep animals safe. You can also show them just how much fun it is to interact with different animals, and encourage them to think about what they can do to play their part in helping to protect animals. Who knows – you may have a future zookeeper among your brood!

Have fun!

The summer holidays are a great chance to kick back, have fun and spend time together – and there is no better way to do this than by enjoying one of the amazing opportunities that are on offer across the country, so that you can make memories that will last for a lifetime.
