Car checks to do before going on a family trip

Heading off on a family trip? It is exciting to take the kids somewhere new, but you want to make sure that the car is ready and in a good condition so that you do not have any problems that will interrupt your adventure. Here are a few of the main checks to carry out to ensure that the car is ready for your family trip.

Clean Interior & Exterior

First, cleaning the interior and exterior gives you a chance to get the car tidy and ready for a long journey. It also gives you the opportunity to see if there are any issues, such as a cracked windscreen or mirror.

Check the Engine

As the heart of the vehicle, you will want to make sure that your engine is strong and in a good condition for the long drive. You can do this by checking the oil, topping up the coolant and testing the battery. It is easy to drain the battery by leaving the lights on, so if your battery is struggling, you may want to look into mobile battery fitting so that you have a strong and healthy battery ahead of your big adventure.

Check the Tyres

The tyres are also key as they will be in constant contact with the road and can suffer from wear and tear. You should inspect the tyres for signs of damage, check the tread depth (1.6mm is the legal minimum) and top up the tyres to the right pressure. If the tyres or damaged or the tread depth is approaching 1.6mm then you will want to get a new set before you head off.

Brakes

Obviously, the brakes are also hugely important and you want to be reassured that they are in a good condition before hitting the road. You should pay close attention to the brakes while driving before the trip, but it is also a good idea to get the vehicle serviced as well. This will bring up any issues with the brakes or any other part of the car and get your car in the best possible condition before you hit the road (this will also provide reassurance).

These are the main checks that you want to carry out on your car before heading off on a family adventure. You do not want car trouble to ruin your trip, so be sure to check the car over for peace of mind and so that you can make the most out of the trip.
