Anyone who breastfeeds knows how expensive nursing wear can be – especially when you consider that you may only wear it for a few months. Created, designed, tested and approved by breastfeeding mums, the Breastvest was invented to make breastfeeding easier – especially if you are a bit self-conscious about feeding in public. It works with any top, so you can use whatever is already in your wardrobe, and it covers up your tummy so you can feed without flashing your post natal tummy.
The vest is super soft, almost silky feeling, and very stretchy, so it can change with your shape, and is even comfortable enough to wear post C section. The design of it may throw you when you first try it, but just pop it on like a normal vest – it is exactly the same apart from the fact that the top is cut away so it sits just under your bra. Pop your top on over it, and when you are ready to feed you can just lift your top up, unhook your bra and away you go. It means there is nothing on view as the Breastvest covers your tummy and your usual top covers your shoulders and chest.
You could even wear this during pregnancy as an extra layer – it is stretchy and generously sized so would work as an extra layer underneath a normal tshirt, covering up the bottom half of your bump – again this could mean you spend less on special maternity clothes.

I have breastfed two children and bought my first (two) breastvests when my eldest was about 4 weeks old, I swear by them and bought two more in preparation for no.2. My original ones are four years old and still going!
My tips for feeding in public is to try your hardest to feel comfortable. As long as I was relatively covered I felt OK. I personally didn’t like button down tops or bv tops with big flaps that opened as I felt a bit too naked. I much preferred to lift my top, as you say, shoulders and chest are covered, then baby is covering your boobs, vest covering your tum. Many times people have started having conversations with me or asked to hold baby whilst I’ve been feeding. Often we’re more anxious about it and nobody else has noticed!

I always took a large muslin with me to help myself keep covered if I needed to as my daughter was always off and on, we shall see how my next experience breastfeeding goes in about 5 weeks

Know that breastfeeding is the most natural thing so never feel embarrassed on someone else’s behalf, there are some wonderful discreet breastfeeding clothes out there!
Not really, I hated doing it, the only thing that made it bearable was a few nursing tops. I think I had been scared by stories I had seen on Facebook. Another baby due in December, I’m more confident this time round, so should be a lot easier.

Be discreet
Just go for it!! No one will be bothered, and if they are you have every right to feed in public!! If you’re nervous maybe go with a friend who has done it before and is Confident.

to use a muslin to cover yourself and baby, tie 2 corners in a knot and put it over your head BEFORE lifting your top and trying to get baby in position. trying to tie a knot while keeping a baby latched on is impossible, and if you don’t tie a knot you will find that baby pulls the muslin down at the exact same time as they decide to turn their head and look around, thereby exposing your bare breast to all and sundry!
I always wear a top with a vest top underneath then pull the top up when feeding. It’s really good at not showing too much if you’re nervous.

Just do what you want. I’ve fed my children out and about and don’t care what others think. If my child needs feeding I’ll feed them! 🙂
just be natural, its no different than if you are feeding your baby with a bottle
