My favourite place in the UK

We live in a beautiful part of the world, and are lucky enough to have several gorgeous places right on our doorstep. When I was asked to be part of the LOOK insurance interactive map detailing the best places to visit in the UK, it took me a while to decide on my absolute favourite. After some thought, and discussion with the children, we decided on our favourite place – Haldon Forest near Exeter.
It is, essentially, a large area of totally beautiful woodland, but there is so much on offer here. One of our favourites is the selection of bike trails. There is a special activity trail for small people, with several places along the way to stop and explore – dens, wooden instruments, picnic spots and play areas.

At the end of the trail there are even ‘BMX bumps’ as Jacob calls them.
For the more adventurous, there is even a Go Ape treetop centre, where you can scale the heights and explore the top of the woodland. Gemma is desperate to try this, but isn’t quite big enough yet.
As well as all the activity areas, it’s just a beautiful place to be. To walk, to cycle, to run, to exercise the dog. You can even ride your horse along the winding bridleways. The children love spotting horses when we are there. The views are second to none, the picnic spots and cafe are clean and welcoming and you can even collect a map and try your hand at some orienteering if you fancy it.
It’s just a place of endless family fun, and we love it.
