We are so, so lucky to live in the beautiful South West. Everyone knows about the great beaches, but there is really so much more to the South West than that. We are lucky to have all sorts of terrains, all sorts of views and colours, and spaces perfect for a whole host of exciting activities from surfing and sailing to climbing and mountain biking.
We are not really a family who are big on holidays abroad. We have taken the children to Disneyland Paris, but other than that, every single family holiday has been in the UK. Why would we go abroad? Ok, you might get a bit more sun, but the weather isn’t everything. In fact, there is something really special about sitting on the beach in wellies and eating fish and chips – it’s a classic British past time. Rain doesn’t stop our play.
Parkdean holidays have been doing a little bit of research on UK holidays, and have asked a group of people to take a short quiz – which showed some surprising results. 3 out of 5 people did not realise that the above image is the UK. But it is – it’s a beautiful beach in Dorset, right here on our doorstep.
Another great example is Penzance, and its stunning sea facing, sun kissed amphitheatre. I can’t think of a better place to sit and watch the rolling sea – and you don’t need to hop on a plane to get there! 1 out of 4 people believed this view was on foreign soil, but it’s on the Cornish coast. Cornwall is a truly wonderful place to holiday, and somewhere we spend a lot of time. There are some amazing sights to see.
Do you tend to holiday abroad, or do you stay in the UK? For us, at least for the forseeable future, we will be staying in the UK for our family holidays. You don’t need to go abroad to enjoy sandy beaches, beautiful views and exotic wildlife because we have all this on the doorstep. Ok, you might not be guaranteed sunshine, but who cares? Splashing in puddles and eating ice cream on a windy pier is all part of the fun!

You live in a beautiful part of the world Kate……am very jealous!
I much prefer holidaying in the UK whilst the children are small. There’s plenty of time to holiday abroad and the UK has some beautiful places. We’re huge Cornwall fans! x
