Cow & Gate growing up milk review

I have never really used a growing up milk before – both Gemma and Jacob just went from breast milk to cows milk once they were old enough. So when Cow & Gate offered to send some of their Growing up milk (1-2 years) for Max to try, I was really interested to see what he would think of it.

Cow & Gate growing up milk review

I have never given a lot of thought to just how many nutrients little ones use up during an average day. Crawling, walking, learning. Just 2 beakers of Cow & Gate growing up milk provides 132% of their Reference Nutrient Intake (RNI) for vitamin D, as well as Omega 3 and iron to support development.

The milk comes in a really easy to use carton with a screw top – SO much easier than the cartons that require lots of faffing about with scissors and always leak when you try to pour. You can also buy in a traditional formula powder. So, we know it’s all good for parents – easy to use and full of the good stuff, but the real test comes in the tasting.

The taste test was a huge success. Max enjoys cows milk before bed, but rarely finishes it. Having given him the Cow & Gate growing up milk for a few nights now, and watching him drain the beaker every night, I think it is safe to say that he far prefers the Cow & Gate. I am really surprised – having never used this type of formula before I really didn’t know what to expect, but it’s clearly a hit with Max.

Have you ever used a growing up milk?

I normally only ever leave comments if they’re positive but I’m make an exception here. Kids can have cows milk from 12 months so I think Follow on milk, growing up milk or whatever else they want to call it is just a bit of a waste of money and completely unnecessary! I’m glad max liked it though! x

Like you, I have only ever used cows milk from 12 months. Max really seemed to like the taste of this growing up milk though!

We’ve always gone for cow’s milk, and fortunately, my kids do like it! Glad you’ve found something that Max loves!

We have tried this and both of my youngest love it too

An interesting review. My little boy loves milk, and from 12 months had been on cows milk. I did mention the follow up milk to our health visitor at his 12 month review and she said it wasn’t necessary. I do wonder about the added vitamins though as he is going through a fussy eater stage! Good to hear someone’s opinion on it! x

I’ve never tried growing up milk with my little ones, straight to cows milk. Probably because of the price difference. Glad your Max likes it though #triedtested

H loves his whole cows milk so this has never been something I’ve considered, mostly from a cost perspective. Had he not liked it however then I perhaps would have looked to something like this.

We’ve always just gone straight to cow’s milk (lactofree in my case). Why does it taste nicer? Do they add sweeteners? Did you taste it?

I have to admit I am rather sceptical about growing up milk, as we have always gone straight to cows milk. I can see the possible benefits, especially as I have two very fussy toddlers and I do worry whether they get all the nutrients they need. We recently had some growing up milk in a goody bag from an event, and the kids tried it and didn’t like it – I had a little sip and was blown away by how sweet it was (I have a sweet tooth!) and I don’t like that – it encourages kids to prefer sweet things.Like everything though, each to their own, and if Max likes it that’s great! #triedandtested

I never used a growing up milk with Carson but may try it with Finley. I appreciate that they get additional nutrients this way so, yeah – I’ll give it a whirl I reckon 🙂

I did use growing up milk with my son, mainly due to the extra vitamins and nutrients, that can’t be found in cows milk. Just 1 beaker in the evening. And I probably will with this baby too.

I am with Donna, we’ve just given the kids cows milk from 12mths, full fat as the marketed stuff that’s meant to have ‘more’ nutrients for our little ones I think is a load of rubbish and a crafty way to get more money out of us, haha. Super cute photo of Max though! xx

I actually use this as mini wouldnt go straight onto cows milk so we do half and half with the aim of soon getting her onto full fat cows milk 100% . Lovely pics x

We went straight to cows milk, although mine have never really been keen on that even. I have real issues with Growing Up Milk as a way around the ban on formula advertising and wouldn’t buy it on principle but I’m glad Max enjoyed it

It’s interesting to know he prefers it and that it contains many nutrients that are essential for his growth. x

I never used follow on milk only cows milk with Olivia but with all the added nutrients it seems like a good choice for parents to use when they reach that stage

We used the growing up milk from Aptimal with our little one, and he absolutely loved it. I do think it is useful if you have little ones who take a bit of time to get used to cows milk.

Glad Max likes it…..My girls went straight onto cows milk….I didn’t see the point of paying extra for follow on milk.
