We moved Max from a cot to a bed a few months ago now, and he has been perfect – he gets in and out himself, he sleeps in there all night and he seems to love it. He has been in a Grobag since birth, and we continued with that when he moved into a bed – mainly for his own comfort and security. Now he is almost 2, we decided to try the Gro to Bed set – essentially a fitted bottom sheet with attached pillow case and a zipable duvet cover. It’s almost a step between a sleeping bag and a full blown single duvet set.
Max was so excited to see his new bedding set. It’s pretty easy to put on – slide the sheet onto the mattress as normal, pop a pillow inside the attached pillowcase and zip the duvet onto the top. We have the single bed size, but it also comes in a cot bed size too.
It was very strange seeing Max get into bed just in a sleepsuit, like we had forgotten something, although he seemed to love the freedom of being able to move about more easily. He got into bed and we showed him how to wriggle down under the covers before we zipped him in. It’s so secure – not only will it help prevent falls from the bed, it is also a safe way to sleep. Max cannot pull the duvet or pillow over his face or kick off the covers.
Max seemed really happy to be in the Gro to Bed set, but of course the real test would be whether he actually went to sleep or not!
He did.
He got out of bed 2 or 3 times which he doesn’t usually do – I think mainly because of the novelty factor of not having a Grobag on and being able to move about a lot more easily. We just popped him back into bed when he got out, and within 10 minutes he was fast asleep, and there he stayed all night. In the morning I heard him shouting for me, and I went in to find him sat up, legs still under the covers, beaming at me as I opened the door. The Gro to Bed set has been a success, and Max has slept happily ever since. It’s been a really gentle way to transition from Grobag to big boy bed, and I only wish it had been about when my older 2 were this age! It’s such a simple design, but it’s incredibly clever – and happy toddler means happy parent. We will continue to use this for a long time, until Max is in a position to have a standard single bed set.

it helped to have a bedtime routine.
Don’t entertain them at sleeping times!!
I never thought I would be able to do it but if you don’t have a baby that goes to sleep by himself, controlled crying is the best thing ever. I swear by it.
