We moved Max from a cot to a bed a few months ago now, and he has been perfect – he gets in and out himself, he sleeps in there all night and he seems to love it. He has been in a Grobag since birth, and we continued with that when he moved into a bed – mainly for his own comfort and security. Now he is almost 2, we decided to try the Gro to Bed set – essentially a fitted bottom sheet with attached pillow case and a zipable duvet cover. It’s almost a step between a sleeping bag and a full blown single duvet set.
Max was so excited to see his new bedding set. It’s pretty easy to put on – slide the sheet onto the mattress as normal, pop a pillow inside the attached pillowcase and zip the duvet onto the top. We have the single bed size, but it also comes in a cot bed size too.
It was very strange seeing Max get into bed just in a sleepsuit, like we had forgotten something, although he seemed to love the freedom of being able to move about more easily. He got into bed and we showed him how to wriggle down under the covers before we zipped him in. It’s so secure – not only will it help prevent falls from the bed, it is also a safe way to sleep. Max cannot pull the duvet or pillow over his face or kick off the covers.
Max seemed really happy to be in the Gro to Bed set, but of course the real test would be whether he actually went to sleep or not!
He did.
He got out of bed 2 or 3 times which he doesn’t usually do – I think mainly because of the novelty factor of not having a Grobag on and being able to move about a lot more easily. We just popped him back into bed when he got out, and within 10 minutes he was fast asleep, and there he stayed all night. In the morning I heard him shouting for me, and I went in to find him sat up, legs still under the covers, beaming at me as I opened the door. The Gro to Bed set has been a success, and Max has slept happily ever since. It’s been a really gentle way to transition from Grobag to big boy bed, and I only wish it had been about when my older 2 were this age! It’s such a simple design, but it’s incredibly clever – and happy toddler means happy parent. We will continue to use this for a long time, until Max is in a position to have a standard single bed set.

Definitely good to stick to a routine
I’m pregnant with my first baby so don’t have any tips of my own. I will be trying to stick to a bit of a routine, which will include a bath (mainly because that’s how I fight my own insomnia!)
Keep to a routine
I find keeping to a routine really helps – otherwise they get stroppy easily. Ours love to have some music and a very soft very low light on, to soothe them.
Swaddling when they are tiny and a regular routine when they are a bit older.
we actually have a routine that works 9 times out of 10 its just finding the right time and format
Routine, wind down time and muted lighting.
gentle quiet time- lovely warm bath ,snuggley cuddle ,warm drink and a story -(no age is too young for a stor) and a dim night light.
A routine! x
Keep to a routine
Wind down down from around 5 p.m and a good bedtime routine.
we stick to a routine and try to keep baby awake after 5pm for a few hours x
I’ve been lucky (so far) in that my little one hasn’t had much problems getting to sleep. When she’s over-tired though and is fighting sleep I softly stroke her nose and this helps her by getting her eyes to close over and over and eventually she drifts off x
tapping my babies bum gently because it reminds them of your heart beat it still helps her now 3 years on
Routine
Routine is the ultimate necessity. Plus low expectations – babies have no idea you want them to sleep at night
routine is very important
Agree with the low expectations comment, i found that we were more stressed when our baby didnt sleep long because of the expectations people kept telling us he should be doing. A bit of tapping and belly rubbing works a treat too
A strict routine every evening.
start a bedtime routine as soon as possible
