What makes your baby happy?

There are so many things that make Eliza happy. She likes to be outside, playing in water and sand, trying to kick a football, feeling the breeze on her face and the grass between her toes, and listening to the birds.

Over the last few weeks, she has learnt to walk and run, and this makes her ridiculously happy – I guess seeing the world from a new angle for the first time is something really amazing? I love watching her walking about, giggling to herself as she goes.

Being with her brothers and sister brings the biggest laughs. They seem to know exactly how to cheer her up when she is upset, how to make her laugh when she is frowning and how to turn a toddler tantrum into fits of giggles. The sound of their laughter makes her laugh too 🙂

Eliza is also pretty partial to a noisy toy or 2. Her current favourites are bells, a sensory sea shaker and a pair of castanets, which she has just learnt to click together. She spends ages wandering around the house clicking them at you.

She has incredibly good hearing – she can hear the sound of the cupboard or fridge door opening from the other end of the house. Eliza has always been a good eater, and she does love meal times. We had a picnic in the garden the other day and she kept trying to steal everyone else’s ice creams.

Eliza is one of the happiest little girls I have met. She only really cries if she is hurt, tired or hungry. The rest of the time, she wanders around the house and garden, picking up toys, following her brothers and sister, watching me go about the housework (and often trying to ‘help’) and standing by the window to watch the world go by. She smiles and giggles every day, and the house is full of the sound of her laughter. It’s infectious, and no matter how stressed and busy I am, the sound always lifts my spirits. Is there any better sound than baby laughter?
