How to add a little bit of luxury to your home

home decor

Everyone has in their mind a perfect image of what they would like their home to look like. But for us busy parents, that’s usually a pipe dream until they all move out! It’s not only parents but anyone with a busy lifestyle knows how difficult it can be to make our homes look a little more glam…rather than just somewhere we sleep after a busy day.

So, how can we add a little bit of luxury to our homes without breaking the bank? Well, here you’ll find a few ideas and a little inspiration of how you can be the envy of all your friends and neighbours and even be a little closer to your dream home.

Look at your flooring

Now is the time to be brutally honest with yourself. Look at your flooring. Chances are, years of abuse from all those accidental spillages, the kids, the pets, those muddy football boots and wellies have no doubt taken their toll on your once lovely floor. Now is the time to upgrade! When I updated my house, I decided to invest in some stunning laminate flooring which I bought online to give my home a glossy, high-end look.

The trick with laminate is that it reflects light, so it makes a room look shiny and bright without any fancy mirror or lighting tricks. Another positive is that laminate is designed to last and it can really withstand a beating from whatever your family throws at it!

Find your inner bookworm

There’s nothing that says both style and substance than a beautiful, book laden bookcase. Fill it with your favourite volumes, or even pictures of your family here and there. Take a trip to your local charity shop or second-hand furniture sale room to see what they have on offer. If you don’t have the room to accommodate a bookcase then go for a few simple bookshelves. Shelving creates depth in any room. You can also use them to showcase your most valued possessions,

Declutter

This one is always tricky, especially if you have a lot of people – particularly little ones – living at home, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give it a go! Luxurious homes often look the way they do because items are displayed in a way that is clutter free. Place anything of value on an open display, and then everything else can be put away into some pretty baskets or even bowls, use your imagination to see what works best for you and your family.

Bring in some colour

Placing vases filled with beautiful, bright blooms in each room creates an instant Wow-factor! It doesn’t even have to be flowers, it can be a leafy green plant in your bathroom or something artificial like a bowl full of pine cones and glittering pieces. The trick is to remember that adding an element of nature, is a simple and easy way to create a sense of grandeur and glamour in every room of your home!
