Review | Ice Age: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure

Ice Age has been a family favourite in this house for a long time. We have all the films, and the kids regularly go back to them, time after time. They’re so easy to watch, they always get a laugh, and they are perfect for family time.

When I heard there was a new Ice Age computer game coming out, I knew we had to try it. Ice Age: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure is available from 18th October, on Nintendo Switch, XBox One, Playstation 4 and PC, and is suitable for ages 3 years and over.

Scrat is at it again in this all new adventure. His prized possession has been locked away in a Scratazon Temple, and the only way to get it back is an epic quest to find four legendary Crystal Nuts, scattered across the land.

The idea of the game is to guide Scrat through his journey, where you’ll face fierce prehistoric creatures, try and survive crazy calamities, and return the missing relics to their rightful home.

The game features a range of classic Ice Age locations, and you might spot some other familiar Ice Age characters too!

Different locations contain different treasures which unlock special powers and help Scrat to jump higher, grab heavier objects and find every last treasure.
If you’ve watched the films, you will know that Scrat is a magnet for bad luck, and things are no different in this game. You will come across all sorts of hazards, such as wolves, giant insects and ‘bosses’ you need to defeat, but that bad luck is always lingering just around the corner, ready to strike when you least expect it…

All the kids have enjoyed playing this game, proving how perfect it is for all ages. It’s a really fun family activity, in line with the Ice Age films. On top of the fun factor, this game offers a range of subtle learning activities, such as solving shape and maths problems, working out distances, and navigating a map.

Ice Age: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure would make a fantastic Christmas gift for any Ice Age fan, and would be the ideal activity for some quiet family time after Christmas lunch! If you haven’t watched the films yet, or it’s been a while since you saw them, this game really makes you want to revisit them, and reacquaint yourself with some old favourites.

The game is available from 18th October, from Smyths Toys, Amazon and Game, and has an RRP of £34.99.
