Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre is a great place to take the kids as you can get up close to the majestic herd of the rare Clydesdale Heavy horses. The farm itself is also a beautiful space with plenty to see and do as well as a shop and cafe. The centre is also conveniently located near Berwick-Upon-Tweed train station, so it is easy to plan your trip here.

Falconry Days

Another incredible animal experience to enjoy in Northumberland is Falconry Days in Simonburn. This is a wildlife and safari park that trains and flies around 70 birds of prey, so it is a great chance to see some of the most striking and interesting birds in the entire world. There are also experience days that allow you and the kids to meet the birds and take part in handling and flying sessions – an experience that they will never forget!

Vindolanda

Vindolanda allows you to step back in time as you discover a Roman fort south of the UNESCO World Heritage Hadrian’s Wall. This consists of two fascinating museums and an active archeological site with ongoing research. This is considered to be one of the most important Roman archeological sites in all of Europe and a chance for your children to discover the intriguing history of the area.

Go Ape! At Matfen

There is also a Go Ape! In Matfen and this is always a great place to take the kids to burn off some energy! These exciting outdoor adventure play areas can be good fun for the whole family and can even help your children to develop their self-confidence by encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zone in a safe and fun environment.
