Reading – it’s a big deal!

Reading is a huge part of our routine in this house – we read bedtime stories to the children every night. Even though Gemma is a brilliant reader and more than capable of reading by herself, we still enjoy reading to her, and don’t intend that to stop anytime soon.
Jacob is now 5 and has just started in Year 1. He is not as keen a reader as Gemma, and has struggled with reading in the past.
Last night, Jacob showeds us just how far he has come since his first days at school.

It may not seem like a big deal to some, but for our little boy, who is only interested in football and cars, this is a huge step forwards. Not just the fact that he read the book out loud to us, but that he wanted to. And I think that speaks volumes, and is a sign of another book lover in the making.

Do your children love books? What are your favourite stories to share together?

Bless him! I’m quite sure that seeing you all enjoying books will be really helping him to move forward 🙂 Lots of boys don’t enjoy reading until they can actually do it if that makes sense! x

I do know what you mean – he didn’t really want to do it at all, until one day he realised he was actually quite good at it lol.

This is so lovely to watch! As a reception teacher I love being part of these moments when children gain confidence and skills to read. I am sharing lots of books with L in the hope that she grows to love reading as much as I do. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of my parents and grandparents reading bedtime stories to us even after we could read ourselves.

Well done to him! My kids love their books, and I’d say any Julia Donaldson book always goes down very well here 🙂

This is lovely and it’s great that he wanted to read to you all. I think that also shows he is confident with his reading.

Very cute and definitely a big deal 🙂
I’ve always loved books and reading and I really hope S will too. I read to him every day and he seems to love books too, already having favourite ones he goes and gets for me to read. I hope I’m encouraging him to enjoy books as much as I did
