My dream bedroom

Our bedroom is a bit neglected to say the least. It has always come bottom of the decorating to do list, and every time it gets near the top something else in the house breaks/wears out/looks shabby and so the bedroom gets pushed back out of sight again. It’s just one of those rooms that doesn’t seem essential to make over – but oh, how I dream of a swanky new sleep space, just for me. No toddlers mushing banana into my bed sheets, no children bemoaning their lack of a trampoline by using my mattress as a replacement. Just me. Oh, and the hubby I suppose 😉

When I dream of my bedroom makeover, it always has a nautical feel to it. I don’t know why – maybe it is growing up on the Devon coast – but something about beach huts, nautical stripes and sandy waves has always featured highly on my want list. So, without further ado, onto the virtual shopping.

I love my bed, so that wouldn’t need replacing. Economical, me. But it does need a revamp, and I am totally craving these crisp white bed sheets and navy and white duvets. Makes me think of beach side hotels, and luxury, and all the things my house isn’t.

Now, I know I have a perfectly good bed, but honestly – who wouldn’t want this in their room for relaxing afternoons (ha, chance would be a fine thing) Houzz.com $149.99

I also have the urge to go to the seaside and collect sand and rocks and all the other ‘interesting things’ my children pick up, and take them home to create something like this masterpiece:

I can just imagine sitting in my hammock with a book and a glass of cold white wine, watching my flickering candle in its glass box. Sounds like a perfect afternoon to me, no? I actually think this would be fairly easy to create – we visit the beach a lot anyway, and there is always something new to find. You could even change it around with the seasons. Of course, to display this box of gorgoeusness, you would need a pretty bedside table – something like this one from White Lighthouse Furniture at £42 – and I think I would also need to buy their dressing table mirror, priced at £50 too!

To finish things off, everything would need a coat of white paint, and the carpet would need to be ripped up so the floorboards could be painted white too. I don’t want a ‘perfect’ finish – I would want it to look a bit weathered (beach like, remember?) and it would be the perfect place for me to display my gorgeous beach hut canvas from The Canvas Prints which I recently received. I can’t recommend this company enough – their customer service is great, they let you know which size your image would work best on – mine was taken on a phone so looked better on a slightly smaller canvas – and delivery is quick. The quality is great too, and I am amazed at how well my iPhone picture is reproduced. It would have pride of place in my dream bedroom – not only because it works with my theme, but because it holds a special place in my heart.

It won’t surprise you to know my bedroom wishlist features a very similar colour scheme, though a completely different style! 🙂
