Go Smoke Free

Meet Kirsty.

At only 33 years old Kirsty was diagnosed with a lung disease caused by smoking.  Through her powerful film clips, Kirsty explains the impact that a smoking related illness like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease has on daily life.

Kirsty talks about her experience of living with lung disease – from not being able to lift her arms above her head to being unable to walk up a single flight of stairs without having to take breaks to catch her breath, of being unable to enjoy simple pleasures with her daughter that most of us would take for granted like taking her swimming.  Her story is just one of many and what is particularly poignant is that despite quitting smoking, the damage has been done. Kirsty’s health is unlikely to improve.

Currently, there are approximately 900,000 people in the UK diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease which generally takes the form of emphysema or chronic bronchitis.  It is an irreversible disease which leaves many sufferers struggling to draw breath. It also accounts for 25,000 deaths every year in the UK (more than breast, prostate or bowel cancer combined) and is caused mainly by smoking.Although damage to your lungs cannot be reversed, you can help prevent it developing or getting worse by taking steps to stop smoking. One modern solution that you can do would be to use the advanced portable vaporizer which is purposely designed for smokers to gradually stop smoking real cigarettes.

It’s hard to comprehend just how much damage smoking can do. It not only has the potential to ruin the life of the smoker, but those around them too – the family and friends who have to watch the suffering, the struggle and ultimately deal with being the ones left behind.

Are you a smoker, or do you have a family member who is? Are you looking for information on going smoke free? There is advice on taking the first step towards being smoke free here. Please share this – you might just save a life today.
